This Is Our New Reality
The 2020 Pandemic changed our lives in unconscionable ways. Who would have imagined a world where we couldn't hug, touch or kiss our loved ones. We could not have imagined that our businesses would be closed in one day, then not able to open again for months with limited capacity and it is still unclear when we will be back to the "new normal."
As business owners and entrepreneurs we work hard, take risks and put everything on the line and if for any reason we fail, it's by our own hand. The Pandemic paused some businesses and completely devastated others. Pivoting has become the new catch phase for those able to change or morph.
Women In the Black has changed focus in 2021 to raise funds to be able to provide grants and loans to African-American women-owned businesses, in addition to workshops, council, promotion and resources that we current provide.. Why - because African-American women have been the last group to receive any government assistance in the past. Why - because this group of business owners are usually also raising our children and making a real difference in the community. Why - because this group of entrepreneurs are very talented, experienced and are not able to soar to the heights of their capacity because of limited financing ability that has been woven into the fabric of the uneven distribution of wealth in America for hundreds of years.
The world-wide "Black Lives Matter" protest has shinned a light on the injustices in the Black community in America that has taken away and denied African-Americans to soar economically.
Women In the Black will continue to build a non-profit organization ready to assist African-American women business owners to maintain and grow their businesses. In the meantime we encourage all to take advantage of current opportunities to get grants and low to no interest loans. We have sourced a comprehensive list of grants, loans and resources below, please apply to all that may be of assistant to you.
